Holiday Preview

When I was little my family used to go pick out a real Christmas tree together every year. We would all pile into the car, make our way to the tree lot, and search until we found the right one. My parents always had the final say, but it was the tradition and festivity that we loved most! The smell of the fresh pine, the cool air that made your cheeks rosy and flushed, and the adventure of finding the star of the show was just so exciting to us.

As all the kids grew older and the mystery of the holiday faded just a little bit,  my parents decided to get a fake tree for our home. Looking at it from an adult perspective, I can definitely see how it is easier and much more practical. I really don't mind our fake tree! It is just as beautiful, just as magical, and just as fun as a regular tree... but I know that once I get my own house I will fall back to the real ones! I want to start the same tradition with my children that I enjoyed when I was young. I still get excited when I see a parking lot filling up with twinkle lights and trees of all different shapes and sizes, like I saw today! The holidays are upon us, and I'm soaking up every little minute of it!

My Thrifted Aztec Find

I'm not usually a big thrifter. I love Macklemore, I love retro clothes, but the hobby of hunting for vintage finds just isn't one I've adopted. I know trendsetters who do, one of my good friends can find amazing items in any thrift shop, but for some reason I'm just not one of those people! Maybe it's the fact that I can't really fit in "normal sized" clothes, but for the most part I seem to find my favorite items in retail stores!

Fortunately, the other day I stopped by a thrift shop and found this gem of a sweater. It's neutral aztec print with fringe all around the bottom. It's the not the most "flattering" item, (I had to cut the hefty shoulder pads out, you guys) but for 3.99 I just couldn't turn it down. I love the grungy, mountainy feel it has. I decided to style it with my Lord and Taylor motorcycle boots and an extra messy messy-bun. It took me about 2 seconds to throw this outfit together, but it sure felt comfortable and cozy in yesterdays cooler weather.

A Little Black Dress & A Little Pink Belt

Alright, I'll admit it... I often shop in the Target kids section. I am not ashamed! You can find some great stuff there, people. I mean quality items at quality prices!

I don't know if my other petite friends feel my pain, but one of my biggest problems is the way that pants tend to fit me. It seems as if I can never find a pair that is perfect in all the right areas. I know that in the world of fashion you are always supposed to get stuff tailored, but I always try to work with that I have and save a little cash!

This LPB (little pink belt, get it?) is just something small that I once bought from Target. I purchased it to wear with a pair of pants that always fall off my waist, but the other day I decided to use it as skinny, waist-line belt, with an outfit I wore to work! I love the simple heart detailing on it. It may look childish when paired with childish clothing, but with a little black dress it adds the ideal amount of femininity!

There's No Place Like Home

Yesterday, before running some errands and dropping off a friends 21st birthday gift at the post office (you know who you are and I love you friend), I stopped by my older sisters house to see my niece and nephew, take some pictures and go to the park!

We came across the most beautiful spot in her neighborhood that was lined with gorgeous white and yellow wild flowers. It looked as if there was a path of shorter grass, when in reality they had just mowed the lawn and left all of the grass on the sidewalk! I knew right when we walked up to it that it would be a gorgeous backdrop for a shoot. I felt like I was in The Wizard of Oz! There's no place like home.

This Goes Out To...

Sorry for the lack of posts yesterday and Wednesday. I was traveling and getting a jump start on my birthday weekend!

(Bare with me while I'm sentimental) 

Yesterday, as I sat in the Starbucks at my alma-matter, looking at all the students walking to and from class with their bookbags on their backs and their heads free of worry, not even realizing how fast their four years as a Pirate undergrad will fly by, I couldn't help but think about the little time here that I took for granted.

Don't get me wrong, class is awesome and I think everyone should work hard to get the degree that they want so they can achieve the career of their dreams, but don't take it all too seriously!

Have a good time, live a little, take advantage of your freedom and your friendships while you can. There are going to be times, like the ones I'm experiencing now, as a college grad living in Charlotte, where you're going to miss all of your peers and the free time that you had. After college comes way more responsibility then you could ever imagine. It's not always fun and football games. It's hard, it's challenging and it pushes you! 

99% of the time I try to live life without any regrets. I love all of the people that I met in school and I wouldn't change anything about the moments that I experienced... but one thing I might alter if I could go back in time would be my openness to new ideas and new experiences. Sometimes I felt like I lived in my own little selfish bubble where I just did what I wanted to do and didn't think about what I was missing out on. Don't do that, undergrads. Make yourself happy, but undertake the unknown!

Before you can even blink you'll be walking around campus as an alumni!

Oh and to the new East Carolinian Fashion Columnist... I read your first column and loved it! Glad to pass on my position to a trendy, talented Pirate. Keep up the awesome work!

Field of Dreams.

Hello, Blog World!

It is so great to be here on this lovely Monday morning! I have been anxiously anticipating the moment when my new and improved website could launch, and now the time has finally arrived.

It feels wonderful!

Over the last few years my “Trendy Lindy” name (props to my dad for the creative title) has developed into my own personal brand, right alongside my life changes and growth as a person. With a college degree under my belt and my hands dirty with past fashion experiences, I’m ready to really begin my blogging adventure!

I hope that many of my readers will visit my site, not just to see what I wear from day to day, but also to have some fun, gain inspiration, create many new friendships, and, more so than not, glean some personal style tips.

If there is one thing I’ve realized after graduating and fighting my way into the fashion industry, it’s that my field of dreams is way more expansive than I ever imagined. It stretches, spans and extends all the way from my Charlotte roots to the tips of the buildings in the NYC skyline. While it may be a lengthy hike, and one that is worn down from countless pairs of pumps and penny loafers making the trek, I am not going to stop until I surpass the top… and that is where ya’ll come in!

This little blog may not gain millions of followers or lead the list of most popular reads on Bloglovin’… but it’s a place for me to share my life with you! A place where I can come to document how my future is unfolding right before my eyes. A virtual diary that you are free to read whenever you feel the need, and one that I can look back on when I get where I want to be!

So with all that in mind, and with my boots deep in the soil of the “unknown,” you better be ready to hold on tight, trendsetters.
