When I was little my family used to go pick out a real Christmas tree together every year. We would all pile into the car, make our way to the tree lot, and search until we found the right one. My parents always had the final say, but it was the tradition and festivity that we loved most! The smell of the fresh pine, the cool air that made your cheeks rosy and flushed, and the adventure of finding the star of the show was just so exciting to us.

As all the kids grew older and the mystery of the holiday faded just a little bit,  my parents decided to get a fake tree for our home. Looking at it from an adult perspective, I can definitely see how it is easier and much more practical. I really don't mind our fake tree! It is just as beautiful, just as magical, and just as fun as a regular tree... but I know that once I get my own house I will fall back to the real ones! I want to start the same tradition with my children that I enjoyed when I was young. I still get excited when I see a parking lot filling up with twinkle lights and trees of all different shapes and sizes, like I saw today! The holidays are upon us, and I'm soaking up every little minute of it!

Hello bloggers! How was your Monday? Mine didn't go exactly as planned, but tomorrow is a new day! Recently I decided to grow my bangs out a little and try a middle part, what do you think?
It's not as flat as it will eventually become, but I think I like it! On an extra happy note, today I discovered that the Starbucks chocolate meringue cookie is gluten free. Um, I was so excited! If you haven't tried this cookie yet, you must go out and get one! Melty, gooey, and so delicious.
Speaking of sweets, are you a fan of peppermint bark? I'm obsessed. It is definitely one of my favorite holiday treats. Regardless of the season, I always have a craving for peppermint (it's refreshing and settles your stomach) but when it gets cold outside and Christmas decorations go up, my craving for homemade peppermint bark is through the roof! Yesterday I went to the grocery store and threw the ingredients into my cart with a huge smile on my face. I felt so festive and I couldn't wait to eat it! Here's the extremely simple recipe...

Homemade Peppermint Bark

WHAT YOU NEED

1 bag of white chocolate chips

1 bag of classic peppermints

Wax paper

WHAT YOU DO
Unwrap peppermints and place into double-bagged plastic bags. Crunch the peppermints up (I get intense and use a hammer) until they're smashed into little pieces. In a double boiler, melt the white chocolate chips until smooth. Pour in crushed peppermint and mix together. Once combined, pour the peppermint bark mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and spread until desired thinness. Place in the freezer for about 10 minutes or until completely frozen. Once it's hardened, remove the bark and break into small pieces.

Keep refridgerated and enjoy! Yum!

Sweet Treats & Middle Parts

When people told me back in college that finding a job in this economy would be tough, they really meant it. I graduated school in May and since then I have applied to over ONE HUNDRED AND TEN JOBS. Yes, you read that correctly, over 110. It can be a bit discouraging, and timely, to apply to that many jobs without any responses.
About a month ago I had an NYC based company respond to my application submission asking me to set up a phone interview. I was thrilled! Out of all the jobs I had been applying to (mind you they were all online) this was my first response that wasn't an offer for an unpaid internship! After connecting via email, we became really close and I felt extremely confident. I was consistently given positive feedback regarding my ideas and background and I truly felt I had it in the bag. I followed up the first interview with two more Skype interviews, waited two more weeks to hear the verdict, and was then given the news that they had gone in a different direction.

I know it sounds silly, but I put so, so much into that interview process. I literally stayed up past 2 in the morning multiple nights coming up with ideas and brainstorming potential campaigns. I wanted this job more than anything, and I fought my hardest to get it. I know that God works out everything for a reason, but that one let-down was a little hard for me to digest.
A couple weeks after that, my spirits were higher and my mindset was different. I started thinking that God's plan for me was to just ride the waves, relax, and find jobs here at home. This would let me save money, count down the days, minutes and hours until my amazing boyfriend, siblings, and college friends would be back in Charlotte with me, and cherish the moments I had without a packed agenda. I would reach my goals eventually, I wasn't complaining! At times it could get a little bit lonely, but for the most part I always find something to keep myself busy.

Friday, October 18th, I was sitting in my bonus room blogging and catching up on my social media when I received a notification in my LinkedIn inbox.
Let me just pause for a moment to tell you that I had a heart attack/panic attack/freak out when I received this message. I literally started running around my house, jumping up and down, spinning in circles, clapping my hands, and squealing like a little school girl.

CONDE NAST, the biggest publishing company in the fashion industry, had messaged me asking me to interview as ASSISTANT TO THE EDITOR AND CHIEF OF TEEN VOGUE MAGAZINE.

THEY messaged ME!?
Can you grasp that concept? I didn't apply, you guys. Not even once. They found my blog, connected to me via LinkedIn, and asked me to interview for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I was in shock. To speed up the story a little bit, I ended up scheduling my interview for Wednesday morning and booking a flight for Tuesday morning. I was about to go to The Big Apple, the best city EVER, and I had only 4 days to plan what I was wearing, where I was staying, and what I was going to say during this interview!?
Wednesday morning, after waking up two hours early to make sure my makeup looked perfect and my hair wasn't a frizzy mess, I stepped out into the hustle and bustle of my favorite city on earth. The air was crisp and cool, leaves crunched under my new black boots, and the most diverse group of stores and locals surrounded me. With my headphones on and my Kate Spade bag on my arm, I made my way to the subway station. Time Square enveloped me in an "I've missed you" hug and it seemed as if every honk and yell was a personalized shout of "welcome back." I was reunited with the city that I know I will one day call home and my heart was so happy.

After a quick Starbucks breakfast and an anxious walk over to the Conde Nast building, I received my name tag and clack, clack, clacked my heels over to the elevators (props to the movie Devil Wears Prada for making me even more excited and providing me with wonderful visuals). It wasn't the first time I was in this building, I had visited last year when I attended TVFU, but it was my first time knowing that THEY had invited ME. I was going in as a guest of honor, not just a random college student who signed up.
The elevators opened and famous faces greeted me from the blown-up covers of GQ, Lucky, and Glamour Magazine, just to name a few. I swished my chiffon skirt over to the doors, told the receptionist that I was ready for my meeting, and sat myself in the nearest chair for about 15 minutes before they called me in.

The interview went so well! The whole time I was sitting there, with a gorgeous back-drop of the city, I couldn't believe that it was real. It was practically impossible for me to think because I couldn't grasp the idea of where I was or what I was doing. I loved the girl I met with and we instantly clicked! That afternoon I received an email telling me that the finalist had already been chosen for the assistant position, but that they wanted me to come in for a follow-up interview with the Senior Recruiter to discuss "other opportunities"....
So that's where I'm going to leave the job update, you guys. The door has cracked opened, my second interview went even better than the first, and I've met amazing people during this process. I'm so hopeful for the future. My steps towards NYC are way fewer then they were a week ago. I know that I'm close and I know I will get there eventually.

I'm so thankful for Conde Nast and for their interest in me! It makes me feel so confident and proud knowing that they see something in me that over 110 companies haven't yet noticed. They're such an influential, ground-breaking company and I will always admire them, regardless of what the future holds.
I am so blessed!

So now, with that extremely long post behind me, I'm going to leave you with a giant collage of photos from my amazing NYC trip...

Come back tomorrow for a fun fall recipe that is gluten free and only takes 2 minutes and 30 seconds to bake?! Mmmm, so delicious.

I'm leaving today! I'm gonna be a part of it.... NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

Hello all! Today I'm flying off to The Big Apple for a fun and very exciting interview! I didn't even apply, they found me, so this whole experience is so thrilling and once-in-a-life-time! Even if I don't get the job (which I'm mentally preparing myself for, since this was so unexpected) I can't wait to tell you all about my trip and the amazing company I'm interviewing with! Hope all of you are having a fantastic Saturday! Incase you didn't get a chance to check it out yesterday, today I'm sharing my guest post via Summers in Seersucker! Hope you enjoy...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off I want to say thank you so much to Megan for letting me guest blog! I love her site and her style, for someone of 16. Don't you? If you haven't yet, be sure to check out her guest post on my blog yesterday! (2 days ago) Anywho...

With pumpkins on every porch and the scent of turkey and Christmas trees gradually wafting our way, there's one particular item that is a "must-add" to your wardrobe... a sweater. It sounds simple, right? Oh no big deal, let me just go to the mall and pick one out. Wrong. Very, very wrong. The daunting task of picking out the perfect sweater this time of year is overwhelming. How can you narrow down your choices with so many amazing options!?

elbow patches or no elbow patches?

stripes or polka dots?

neutral or bright?

crew-neck or v-neck?

graphic print or solid?

long sleeve or fourth sleeve?

cropped or tunic?

cashmere or wool?

The list goes on and on, people! So today I'm going to give you four easy options, just incase you're in a sweater-rut this season. Hopefully one of them will suit your style!

1) J.Crew Camel Sweater - What's the nativity scene without the oh-so-recognizable camel? Not only does it combine neutral tones with a fun graphic print, but it's also extremely versatile! Pair it with some patterned pants any day of the week, and you're J.Crew model status.
2) ASOS Elastic Cross-back Sweater Dress- Just because you're wearing a big cozy sweater doesn't mean you can't look glamorous. This ASOS dress is the perfect way to stay comfortable and chic. Black, backless, and ideal for cooler weather!
3) Nasty Gal Rush Knit Sweater- I've already mentioned in previous posts how much I love plaid for fall. It's pretty much the most "mountainy, jumping-in-leaves, hiking, cocoa-drinking" print around. I love it in almost every color, but red and black is a classic that'll always be number one in my book.
4) Madewell Wafflestitch Colorblock Sweater- One of my favorite looks is the "baseball tee" look. Different color sleeves with a solid body is extremely chic! Don't you know that the baseball fad is in right now? Throw on a Yankees cap and hit the streets!

Which one is your favorite? If you pick one out and feel the urge to order, share a picture with us! We'd love to see it! Be sure to follow my blog at www.TrendyLindy.com! Thank you again, Megan!

Sweater Weather - Via: Summers in Seersucker

While I was rocking my thrifted tribal print sweater, my twin sister (and photographer) was also looking stylish! One thing I love about autumn is wearing neutrals. Any combination of muted colors looks fabulous juxtaposed against fall leaves and overcast weather. This simple look combines sandy browns and mossy greens to create an earth-toned ensemble that looks casual, yet on trend!

Although my sister and I look very much alike in many ways, one thing I've always admired about her is her extra fair complexion and amazingly blue eyes. They seem to pop no matter what she's wearing! She also has a beautiful smile that I envy so much! I love her to the moon and I love taking street style shots with her. Here's how she wore her latest fall look...

Earthy Ensemble

I'm not usually a big thrifter. I love Macklemore, I love retro clothes, but the hobby of hunting for vintage finds just isn't one I've adopted. I know trendsetters who do, one of my good friends can find amazing items in any thrift shop, but for some reason I'm just not one of those people! Maybe it's the fact that I can't really fit in "normal sized" clothes, but for the most part I seem to find my favorite items in retail stores!

Fortunately, the other day I stopped by a thrift shop and found this gem of a sweater. It's neutral aztec print with fringe all around the bottom. It's the not the most "flattering" item, (I had to cut the hefty shoulder pads out, you guys) but for 3.99 I just couldn't turn it down. I love the grungy, mountainy feel it has. I decided to style it with my Lord and Taylor motorcycle boots and an extra messy messy-bun. It took me about 2 seconds to throw this outfit together, but it sure felt comfortable and cozy in yesterdays cooler weather.

Sweater, Vintage. Necklace, Hand Picked. Top, Forever 21. Boots, Lord & Taylor. Denim, Forever 21.

What is the best item you've ever found while thrifting? Show me how you style it! Stay tuned tomorrow for some photos of my gorgeous twin and her earthy ensemble!

My Thrifted Aztec Find

Alright, I'll admit it... I often shop in the Target kids section. I am not ashamed! You can find some great stuff there, people. I mean quality items at quality prices!

I don't know if my other petite friends feel my pain, but one of my biggest problems is the way that pants tend to fit me. It seems as if I can never find a pair that is perfect in all the right areas. I know that in the world of fashion you are always supposed to get stuff tailored, but I always try to work with that I have and save a little cash!

This LPB (little pink belt, get it?) is just something small that I once bought from Target. I purchased it to wear with a pair of pants that always fall off my waist, but the other day I decided to use it as skinny, waist-line belt, with an outfit I wore to work! I love the simple heart detailing on it. It may look childish when paired with childish clothing, but with a little black dress it adds the ideal amount of femininity!

Do you have any items from the kids section? C'mon, don't be shy...
